Great News for Foreigners Hoping to Work in Korea: 22,731 Additional Seasonal Worker Quotas for Late 2025
On June 24, 2025, the Korean government announced some very welcome news for foreigners interested in working in Korea.
The Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries have jointly decided to allocate an additional 22,731 seasonal worker positions for the second half of 2025.
This brings the total number of seasonal worker positions for 2025 to 95,700, which is a 41% increase from 2024. It reflects the growing demand for foreign workers in Korea’s farming and fishing sectors, especially during harvest seasons.
Where will these jobs be?
-
Agriculture: 86,633 workers (including 17,637 newly added for the second half of the year)
-
Fisheries: 8,796 workers (including 5,094 additional positions)
Workers will be placed across 100 local governments nationwide, especially in areas focused on seaweed and oyster farming, fruit harvesting, and vegetable farming.
What has improved in the system?
-
Expansion of Public Seasonal Work Program
Under this system, agricultural or fisheries cooperatives hire foreign workers directly and assign them to farms or fishing operations on a daily basis. This offers greater job stability for foreign workers. -
More Support for Language Assistance
Local governments can now invite foreign language interpreters based on their actual needs, making it easier for workers who are not fluent in Korean to communicate and work comfortably.
Why this matters
These seasonal work opportunities are more than just jobs.
They offer a legal, structured path for staying and working in Korea, and in some cases, may even help open doors to longer-term visas in the future. Gaining experience through this program can build a solid foundation for future immigration or work opportunities.
